Sell Your House Prayer

I DON’T UNDERSTAND–regarding praying and answered prayer…?
I’m doing something wrong, it’s regarding praying. My wife and I have a house we ‘must’ sell. We have a financial condition I won’t go into. The entire church kept praying and along comes a buyer in several months.
I know it isn’t anyone’s will, including God’s, for us to have our backs strapped against the wall. So…the closing is set and the Buyer backs out at the last minute. Now we’re in a worst mess than ever.
Everything lined up….we had the prayers going to heaven….God wouldn’t want us living in this condition…..yet it falls through with no help in sight. As said, we’re in a worse mess than ever now.
Explain this to me…..I obviously don’t understand prayer.
This move had to be because of health and related money matters. So what do I deduct…God wants my wife to be sicker and us poorer?
This is a bad spiritual place to be. Please, no sarcasm. I need helpful answers.
Dear Murray;
Yes, Murray, there is a God! Contrary to what some in this forum may expound. With the financial meltdown that the world is facing I am fairly certain that you are not alone in your financial despair. This economic downturn is affecting most everyone, Christian and non-Christian alike.
I admire your courage in placing your question in this forum. Christians face many detractors in the public forum. I want you to know that you are in my prayers of the moment!
I have been in a similar situation, and I am still going through the turmoil of financial distress. A few years back I moved my family to Texas for ministry, the end result was that we basically lost everything. At this point I am getting ready to go to the Middle East as a civilian contractor in a war-zone.
Throughout my trials and tribulations Romans 8:28 has been my guidepost — “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” I have prayed for God’s guidance and providence, and yet we lost our home and barely had money for food and other necessities. Even in the midst of these issues I’ve seen the Hand of God. My poverty has been a source of opportunity for others to minister to my family and me.
I won’t go into all the details but we have been able to survive due to the love and compassion of other Christians who listened to the God in our hour of need. All of these saints of God gave out of their own volition. We often did not know who our benefactors were until years after the fact.
I cannot answer why these things are happening. God does not require poverty. It is natural to be mad at God. God is not vindictive — He will not heap further woes on you because of your anger of the moment.
I pray that the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Peace, prayers, and holy hugs,
Fr. Michael Callahan
